4 Days Mount Kenya Trek – Sirimon Route (Down Naromoru)

This 4-day Mount Kenya trek combines the scenic Sirimon Route ascent with the faster Naromoru Route descent.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Nairobi – Old Moses Camp (3,300m)

We drive from Nairobi to Sirimon Park Gate. From the gate, we climb through forest, bamboo, and the widespread heather zone.
The trek is gentle, gaining an elevation of approximately 680 meters.

We arrive at Old Moses Camp (3,300m) located in the moorland zone for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Old Moses – Shipton Camp (4,200m)

After breakfast, we ascend uphill, branching left at the junction. About one hour from Old Moses Camp,
we reach Ontulili River where we rest briefly and refill our water bottles.

The trek continues through moorland, crossing Liki North and entering Mackinder’s Valley.
Here, the views of the main peaks are stunning and clearly visible.

Wildlife such as hyrax, birds, and monkeys can be spotted along the route.
We arrive at Shipton Camp (4,200m) for dinner and overnight rest.

Day 3: Shipton – Point Lenana (4,985m) – Met Station

At 3:00 AM, we leave camp and follow a rocky path to Point Lenana. The ascent takes about 3 hours,
arriving around 6:30 AM in time for sunrise.

The sunrise is breathtaking, with soft golden light illuminating the peaks and surrounding landscapes.
It is a truly unforgettable experience.

After the summit, we descend to Mackinder’s Camp for rest and breakfast.
We then continue descending through the vertical bog section of the Naromoru Route to Met Station for lunch,
followed by dinner and overnight stay in cabins.

Day 4: Met Station (3,000m) – Nairobi

After breakfast, we descend to Naromoru Park Gate, a journey of approximately 3 hours.
A vehicle will be waiting to transfer you back to Nairobi, arriving in the early evening.

  • January to March – Dry weather and clear views
  • June to October – Stable trekking conditions
